Hitting for Barefood

This post will not be about us.
If anything, this post is a curhat of our drummer and his trip with one of our kamerad of a group.

---

The line between idolizing a group and loving the musicality of your friend isn't that thin. It's fucking thick and annoying.

That being said, is the sole reason I was torn when Ditto and Mamet beep me up to helped them on their trip to Ipoh. As much as I want to help them out as a friend, I would never EVER want to fucked with any of their tunes. Thing is, I'm a natural in fucking other people's tunes up. Teehee.

So we went to rehearse. Then we went on the planeride. Then we passed by plentiful of massage parlors, bars, mountains, morning crows cawing in front of the window, until we finally arrived at Ipoh station.

The city is very laid back, the weather was nice, and the structure is pedestrian friendly. Real treat for indon eyes. After we fed ourselves with nasi ganja (NASIJUANA!!), we went for a stroll in a cave. Full bellied caving; it was awesome.

The venue was already packed with muda-mudi perak when we arrived. Music blasted thru the roof, people already dance their ass off to the sounds. The scene's tight, the bands' were great, audience received the sweat-worthy music real well. Pretty sick.

So the gig was on, and I played safe (of course).
The set was Barefood's essentials; from Deep & Crush to Teenage Daydream. Mamet went lungsout and Ditto once again bodysurfed the crowd with his guitar; he's making it a ritual. As for me, got myself a personal achievement: I get to play my favorite Barefood tune, with the band! TRUTH, BABY!!

Still, after the performance, I crunched the play in my head. Did it really went okay? People seem to enjoy the performance, but later I think it went a bit too punkish ;) sorry!

So I'm writing this as a shout to the followings:
Ahmad, SOFT is anything but its name. Look forward to eat those noises again.
Aff of EFIL, thanks for the ride, the chats AND the tape!
Azam of Citizens of IceCream, thanks for the CD!
Panjang of Virgina On Duty, thanks for the roll!
Andri of Anoa Records, thank you for being such a solid provider. You're a terrific mother figure :*
Ditto + Mamet, thank YOU for the opportunity.

It's been an honor.

COVERED IN STATIC.

TV has played a big part for the three of us,

and we're happy that those days are over.

During the pre-adolescent era, it fulfilled our need of entertainment and an alternative group activity for us the anti-sweating bunch. It used to be filled with a whole lot of new experience and references, and we can actually learn something from the tellie; a library for the lazies.

It used to be fun.

Then we grew up, we grow old and realized that the fun is gone. It is now filled with shameless race for ratings and extravagant nonsense to create yet another "figure"

It tells you what to do, where to be, what to wear. It tells you how to feel and why you should feel that way. TV is now an obsessive cunt of a spouse.

So we left and look for new fun. Praise the Internet, right?

Little do we know that the tellie's already in its final form; A monstrous personality making machine that feeds of off dramas and stupidity.

You always had that one friend that's tweeting anything s/he seen on TV and pretend to be the first one to say it. Another friend is sharing a heartwrenching or faux optimistic links on facebook that direct you to made-up tale from neverland. So you get to be grateful of your life, or "take a moment to reflect".  Because when it's on the interwebz, then it must be true.

And of course,  there's always somebody recording and uploading tv shows "to help other people" and "to make TV more accessible".

Viral videos as infomercial, starring Keyword Marketing as rating's new outfit and User Engagement as the concubine of performance indicator. Sex, tears and blood that are shareable are the best-sellers. Spoonful after spoonful of the same old tricks are given.
And you, good friend, are still the consumer.

You can't escape it.

Until today, you are -still- one of the tiny, barely visible dot in the statistics.

Everything with screens are merely tools. Don't get attached to it. Don't let it turns you into one.

We utilize these tools to get in touch with people, like our favorite musicians, for instance. We asked their permission to nicked their songs, butchered them to pieces, and covered them with noises.

For what, you might ask?

For fun, that's the main idea. To make a point and stir butthurts in the process, those are the added bonus.

Notes from #hoarsetour2011

It’s 6.30 AM in Kebumen. A bright Saturday morning, a perfect start to end the event we’ve planned in chain emails chit-chat with Mamet and Argha. Perfect time to light up the first cigarettes of the day and sigh, because the notes supposedly act as a diary, turnout to be a thankyou list.

***

Been two months since Mamet and Argha agreed to the idea of organizing own mini tour. Purely by words on emails, purely by trust to each other’s music. Bit by bit, we started recollecting memories of putting together a show. Because at our age, most groups are already big and have people to do shits for them, or disbanded due to family or work reasons. Welcome to Indo ™.

We’re hosting the first show in Bandung. Me and Ruli wanted a landmark as the venue, so we stroll around Braga, one of the most well-known part of Bandung, and ended up in Braga CafĂ©. The people there were being really supportive, so it doesn’t take a sweat to do the show there. The sweat started to drop when the show started, though. Veskil and Neowax opened the show too awesome, they actually made us worry about failing to be the highlight (no, really). And when the curtain dropped, Barefood and Nervous did their job great. The fascination we felt the first time hearing their music lingers, and the climax already reached. So we wrapped things up quickly, then getting ready for the next location.

Barefood did an awesome job choosing BARA basement as the venue. It is –by far- one of the coolest venues in Jakarta, mostly because it’s a basement. It has that exclusive sneer people wanted so badly and the ceilings so low it gives you pride for your average height. And yes, it was totally exclusive. The crowding comments on Twitter don’t do justice to the actual audience. But at second glance, the intimate crowd was actually fans of the performers, which turn the night into an underground karaoke moshpit full of body-surf and laughs. Nervous still kickin’ well with Adit dancing and masturbating with the amps most of the time though Wisnu is suffering a very grungy illness during the two shows. Not to mention Barefood still slappin’ ears by their straight-to-your-face rock and an extra entertainment when Ditto got a lil "carried away" at the end of the set :D

Yes, it was Takbiran night for Iedul Adha, but we had a cow-slash-buffalo-slash-bison as an icon to justify the event. It was conceptually in the context. Whatever the fuck that means.

***

And here we are, in Kebumen. Chillin’ before tonight’s closing show. Trying to make some sense out of our actions and the times wasted of all of this. Decided not to expect anything and not to plan anything. Because we’re too good in being average, we will exploit it one more time.

We're honored to have met great bands here at #hoarsetour2011. Bands that’re so great you don’t even need to tell or care about their genre names. Bands that grabbed you by the balls and forced you to listen. We are grateful for Neowax, Veskil, StrawberryWine, Damascus, Anggisluka and Talking Coasty, for letting us shared the stage with them, for giving us such majestic sounds in a very humble ways.

And to yous came and had a late night snacks with us in Bandung, yous in Jakarta's moshpit, yous shared the sweat and bubbly drinks in Yogya, yous buying the entry tickets, yous purchasing the single-club CDs and t-shirts: thank you, tourmates! Thank you for participating!

And to our dearest trippin' company; Barefood and Nervous, thank you for doing this with us.

We will be uploading pictures and more from the 3 shows, as soon as we get some proper and decent images to show. And hopefully, there will be more of #hoarsetour next year. -A

See photos here, Credit goes to Rega Ayundya Putri and Dila Difakuma. Hi-res version of the BDG gig coming soon.

Point is, make your own shows, create your own stages, form a self-congratulatory community, whatever. If us old fucks can do it the minimal way, you younguns and your energy should enable more opportunities and options.

>> About : Andry Moch

ps. ada yang bisa tau credit image "retrospective" harus ditujukan pada siapa?

Stumble across this image on the Facebook newsfeed. Few friends been putting this image as their profile pic as well.

This went back to the ohwoohoowow days.

Saya ingat pertama kali menemui Andry Moch di pusat kebudayaan perancis cabang bandung bersama Krisgatha. Saya ingat Andry mengundang kami untuk hadir di acara noise-rock keesokan harinya di iF Venue. Saya ingat bertanya padanya apakah ia masih memiliki slot untuk satu band lagi. Dan saya masih jelas mengingat jawabannya;

"Dateng aja dulu.

"Euh..

Simply by giving us the chance to perform, he's given us many.

HOARSE 2011

Been a year since the last updated and deleted post. We're too busy doing nothing and everything. BUT in November 2011, we had the chance to do some rippin' trippin' with two marvelous bands, Barefood from Jakarta and Nervous from Yogyakarta. We will be visiting each other's hometown and play with the local heroes. Pretty overwhelming.

Ruli refused to contribute on this blog, so i guess i'll be filling in with nonsense and other blah sometime soon. More about the minitour later.
